I love street art. I love doing what I’m not supposed to do. I love drawing attention to things that people might not otherwise have noticed. I like impermanent art and I am less worried about getting into trouble if it can easily be washed away. That being said I’m still scared every time I draw on the sidewalk in public. I feel like a renegade.
My first time outlining shadows with chalk was when I was waiting for the bus and it drove right by me without even slowing down. I wanted to make the most of my time while waiting for the next bus and I decided to get started on my burgeoning career as a street artist.
This happened one day while my students were making large scale chalk narratives and I was outlining tree shadows while they were working. They wanted to do what I was doing.
